(KPL) The National Library recently relocated near Kaysone Phomvihane Museum in Vientiane has been handed over to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
The library has been relocated around 10 km away from its former location which is also in Vientiane Capital.
The library was handed over by the Chitchaleun Construction Company, the contractor, to Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr Bosengkham Vongdara in the attendance of relevant officials in a ceremony held on December 29.
The construction of the new National Library commenced in mid-2013 and was completed in March of this year at a cost of US$5 million, said the General Director of the Chitchareune Construction Company, Mr Somvang Vongvilay.
It is a four-story building sized 83.1 m by 41.6 m.
The library is equipped with closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV), internet, elevators, air conditioners, electricity and water supply facilities, meeting rooms, working spaces, document archives, a lab and reading rooms.
In his remarks, Mr Bosengkham said that the newly built National Library is an outstanding piece of work in the country and will be a place for students to look for information to improve and upgrade their knowledge and capacity so that they can better take part in national development in the future.
