Lao Government Awards Friendship Medal to Outgoing Republic of Korea Ambassador

ຂປລ The Lao Government has awarded the Friendship Medal to outgoing Republic of Korea Ambassador Jung Yung-soo in recognition of his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between Laos and the Republic of Korea.


The medal was presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane during the ambassador's farewell courtesy call following the completion of his diplomatic mission in Laos.
Presenting the award on behalf of the Government, Mr. Thongsavanh commended Ambassador Jung's dedicated service since assuming office on November 14, 2022, highlighting his role in promoting cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including politics, security, trade, investment, education, culture, sports and social development.
He also praised the ambassador's efforts in facilitating high-level exchanges between the two countries, including the participation of former Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol in the ASEAN Summits in Vientiane in September 2024 and the official visit of Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith to the Republic of Korea in December 2025. During that visit, the two countries agreed to elevate their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership, marking a new milestone in bilateral ties.
Mr. Thongsavanh also expressed the Lao Government's appreciation for the Republic of Korea's continued development assistance, particularly its support for Laos during its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024.
Ambassador Jung thanked the Lao Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Lao people for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure. He described the Friendship Medal as a great honour and a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries, reaffirming his commitment to further strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership between Laos and the Republic of Korea.
