Thakhek Registers Over 71,500 Eligible Voters Ahead of National, Provincial Elections

ຂປລ More than 71,500 eligible voters in Thakhek District are preparing to cast their ballots in the upcoming elections for the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Council, local officials announced.

Khammouane Province reported that Thakhek District has established 70 polling stations to facilitate voting. According to official data, the district has 71,596 eligible voters, including 35,588 women. Authorities estimate that 58,246 voters among them 29,026 women are expected to participate in the polls.

Mr. Sonmany Souliyadet, District Deputy Party Secretary and Deputy Standing Member of the Thakhek District Election Committee, announced the figures at a press conference on February 18, 2026.

He noted that election day is approaching within days, describing the vote as a significant political event for the Lao multi-ethnic people nationwide and particularly for residents of Thakhek district. The elections, he said, represent an important milestone in strengthening the democratic rights of citizens as masters of the nation.

He called on all eligible citizens aged 18 and over to fully exercise their voting rights to ensure the elections meet their intended objectives. Residents across Thakhek district were also urged to uphold unity and solidarity and to participate in the election in accordance with the law.
