As Laos prepares for the election of the 10th Legislature of the National Assembly (NA) and the 5th Legislature of the Provincial People’s Councils, voters in Vientiane Province are voicing strong expectations for capable, people-centred representatives who can deliver real benefits to communities.
the election is viewed as an important exercise of democratic rights, allowing citizens to choose qualified individuals to serve as NA members and Provincial People’s Council members at both central and local levels.
Mrs. Khueavan Hommixay, a resident of Phonsong Village in Viengkham District, said on February 17, 2026, that she is fully prepared to vote in Constituency No. 10. She explained that she has already selected her preferred candidate—someone who is knowledgeable, capable, patriotic, supportive of the democratic system, and committed to prioritizing the interests of the people.
She stressed that elected representatives should remain close to citizens by regularly visiting grassroots communities, listening carefully to their concerns and proposals. These issues, she said, should then be raised with the National Assembly and relevant authorities to help address urgent social challenges. She also expressed hope that elected members will contribute to tangible improvements in the province, especially in road development and livelihood support.
Meanwhile, Mr. Siphet Phengvongxay, Head of the Economic Division of the Vientiane Provincial People’s Council, said that as a voter, he believes all candidates running for the NA and the Provincial People’s Council meet the required standards and qualifications. He noted that many candidates have demonstrated strong performance and gained the confidence of Party and State organizations.
Mr. Siphet emphasized the importance of selecting the most suitable candidates for each constituency in line with the number of seats allocated. He added that newly elected members should continue strengthening state governance and social management under the rule of law, while closely linking their work to socio-economic development and improving the living standards of people from all ethnic groups.
Calling the upcoming vote highly significant, he urged citizens across Vientiane Province and nationwide to uphold unity and actively participate in the election to ensure that the rights and interests of the Lao people are effectively represented in the years ahead.
