Deputy Minister Attends UN Summit on Mid-term Review of New Urban Agenda

ຂປລ Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport Ngamprasong Muongmani participated in the United Nations Summit on the Mid-term Review of the New Urban Agenda, held at UN Headquarters in New York on July 16–17, where delegates reviewed global progress on sustainable urban development and endorsed a political declaration.

The summit brought together heads of state, government leaders, ministers, and representatives from 115 countries and international organizations to advance implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) on sustainable cities and communities.
Leading the Lao delegation, Mr. Ngamprasong delivered remarks and presented Laos' progress in implementing the New Urban Agenda during the mid-term review. He also joined discussions on sustainable urbanization, infrastructure development, and managing rapid urban growth.
Delegates exchanged views on accelerating implementation of the New Urban Agenda, strengthening monitoring and data collection, expanding international cooperation, integrating urban development with the Sustainable Development Goals, and addressing the impact of global crises on cities and communities.
At the summit, Laos reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable urban development and outlined three key priorities:
Expanding integrated urban planning under the principle of "One City, One Plan";
Strengthening public-private partnerships to mobilize investment and financing for sustainable urban development; and
Improving housing, urban governance, and resilient infrastructure, particularly in rapidly growing small towns.
The Lao delegation reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with UN member states to promote sustainable, inclusive, resilient, and modern urban development.
