Attapeu Province lifted 30,838 families out of poverty between 2021 and 2025, raising 88.32% of households above the poverty line, according to provincial authorities.
The achievements were highlighted during a meeting reviewing the implementation of grassroots political building, rural development, poverty eradication, and the "Three Builds" initiative for the 2021–2025 period, while outlining priorities for 2026–2030.
During the five-year period, the province also developed three rural villages into small urban centers: Sakha village in Xaysettha District, Vongsamphan village in Phouvong District, and Nyai Muen Hua Muang village in Samakkhixay District.
Three districts—Samakkhixay, Xaysettha, and Sanamxay—were officially declared poverty-free. Under the "Three Builds" initiative, Samakkhixay, Xaysettha, and Sanxay districts were recognized as comprehensive strong units, while 70 villages were designated as development units.
For the 2026–2030 period, Attapeu has identified three priority areas: strengthening grassroots political institutions, advancing rural development and poverty reduction, and deepening implementation of the "Three Builds" initiative.
The province aims to strengthen the role of grassroots officials, expand Party building to production units, businesses, factories, online communities, and civil society organizations, improve governance under the rule of law, and promote a more self-reliant economy.
Authorities also aim to reduce the number of poor households to fewer than 390 province-wide, while strengthening national defense and security and expanding cooperation with neighboring provinces, particularly those in Vietnam.
In rural development, the province will continue promoting sustainable livelihoods by encouraging self-reliance, improving food security, attracting private investment, reducing dependence on external assistance, and ensuring secure land allocation with measurable development targets.
Under the "Three Builds" framework, Attapeu plans to build the province into a unit with seven strategic strengths, designate two additional districts as comprehensive strong units, develop 17 more subdistricts and villages into development units, and further strengthen decentralized governance and performance monitoring.
