(KPL) Electricite du Laos (EDL) and CTE Co., Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct a feasibility study for a 100-megawatt solar power project in Oudomxay Province, marking a step toward reducing electricity imports during the dry season.

The signing ceremony was held at EDL headquarters in Vientiane Capital. The agreement was signed by Souliya Manivong, Deputy Managing Director of EDL, and Yang Yong Seok, Director of CTE. Representatives from EDL’s legal and contracts department and partner companies also attended.

The project aligns with the government’s energy development strategy for 2025–2027 and its long-term vision through 2050, which identifies priority sites for nationwide clean energy expansion. The proposed solar facility will be located in the Nam Hin Reservoir area, covering Ban Na Lae and Ban Na Saen Kham villages in Xay District, with an installed capacity of 100 MW to strengthen the northern power grid.

Key objectives include reducing costly electricity imports during periods of low hydropower output, stabilizing domestic supply through complementary dry-season solar generation, and creating potential for electricity exports to neighboring countries to generate foreign currency revenue.

Under the MOU, both parties will jointly carry out a comprehensive feasibility study assessing technical, financial and environmental aspects prior to full project development.
