Super Typhoon Yagi Expected to Hit Laos on Sunday Morning

ຂປລ The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued its fourth warning regarding Super Typhoon Yagi, which is expected to affect Laos tomorrow, September 8. As of 10:50 AM today, the typhoon's center is located at 20 degrees north latitude and 107.6 degrees east longitude, with maximum winds near the center reaching 185 kilometers per hour. Yagi is currently moving westward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, and is forecast to make landfall in northern Vietnam this evening.

(KPL) The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued its fourth warning regarding Super Typhoon Yagi, which is expected to affect Laos tomorrow, September 8. As of 10:50 AM today, the typhoon's center is located at 20 degrees north latitude and 107.6 degrees east longitude, with maximum winds near the center reaching 185 kilometers per hour. Yagi is currently moving westward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, and is forecast to make landfall in northern Vietnam this evening.

The storm is expected to weaken gradually, transitioning into a tropical depression as it moves inland. By the morning of September 8, 2024, Super Typhoon Yagi is forecasted to reach northern Laos, bringing widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across the region. The affected provinces include Phongsaly, Huaphan, Xieng Khuang, Oudomxay, Bokeo, Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang, Xayaboury, Vientiane, Vientiane Province, Xaysomboun, Borikhamxay, Khammuan, and Savannakhet.

In southern Laos, provinces such as Saravan, Champassak, Attapeu, and Sekong are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall due to the influence of the southwest monsoon from September 7 to 9.

Authorities have urged residents, local administrative bodies, and organizations across the country, particularly in Vientiane, to prepare for possible flooding, landslides, and urban inundation due to continuous heavy rains. The public is advised to stay updated with ongoing weather forecasts.
