The National Assembly of the Lao PDR plans to review 32 draft laws in 2027, including two new laws and 30 amendments, following a review of its legislative work, oversight activities and international cooperation during 2026.

(KPL) The plans were outlined on October 12 during the ongoing second ordinary session of the 10th National Assembly, which reviewed the legislature’s achievements and priorities for the coming year.
During 2026, the National Assembly held its inaugural and extraordinary sessions, adopting key resolutions on the state budget, monetary policy, rural development and poverty reduction. The legislature also streamlined its organisational structure in line with Party directives to improve administrative efficiency.
In its legislative work, the National Assembly approved the State Treasury Law and the revised State Budget Law, while ratifying international agreements covering cross-border transit, mutual legal assistance and tax cooperation.
The legislature also strengthened oversight of public services, disaster response and the handling of citizens’ complaints. More than 1.1 billion kip was provided in emergency assistance to 10 provinces affected by flooding, while the National Assembly Secretariat processed hundreds of petitions from the public.
International cooperation remained another priority, with the National Assembly undertaking nearly 50 external engagements and participating in regional and international parliamentary forums, including the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
For 2027, lawmakers plan to intensify scrutiny of socio-economic policies and the implementation of the National Agenda on poverty reduction, major infrastructure projects and government regulations. The assembly also aims to resolve 30% of pending public grievance cases.
Vientiane is scheduled to host the 18th AIPA Caucus in 2027, providing another opportunity to strengthen regional parliamentary cooperation.
Parliamentary leaders stressed the importance of closer coordination among the government, the National Assembly and provincial People's Councils to address economic challenges, improve governance and ensure that legislation supports public interests and sustainable development.
