(KPL) The Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd on April 26 unveiled its latest smart phone models, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, both boasting infinity displays, in Laos.
A launching ceremony for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ models was held in Vientiane in the presence of Managing Director of Lao Samsung Electronics Sole Co., Ltd., Mr Seungho Choi, officials from the Lao Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, businesspeople and invited guests.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are expected to be available in Laos on May 5, although pre-booking for the smartphone models can be made at Samsung sales agencies in Vientiane with a deposit of 400,000 kip (USD 50).
“I am not here to tell you how great the product is. Today, I am here to tell you that a great milestone has yet again been achieved. Today is a new beginning and it is the day that we will all remember in many years to come,” said Mr Choi.
“I am immensely excited and proud to introduce our new flagship device in the Galaxy family and its visionary design that embodies the best of our technology. Today, with this all-new Samsung Galaxy S8, you can now begin to explore a whole new set of possibilities, shifting boundaries, pushing your limits, and going out-of-the-box,” he added.
The latest smartphone models come with a 5.8 inch display for the S8 and a 6.2 inch display for S8 plus, while the physical home button has been replaced with an on-screen one, enabling them to have bigger screens than competing models.
Since pre-booking was announced on April 18, many Galaxy S8 and S8+ units have been ordered, according to Head of IT and Mobile Communication of Samsung Electronics Sole Co., Ltd., Ms Saranya Paiboonnukulkij.
The Galaxy S8 measures 148.9 mm x 68.1 mm x 8.0 mm and weighs 155g, while the Galaxy S8+ measures 159.5 mm x 73.4 mm x 8.1 mm and weighs 173g.
Both smartphones are dual-SIM capable and water-resistant up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes. They also feature an iris scanner for advanced security, and come in three colours: midnight black, orchid grey, and maple gold.
The new phones’ most eye-catching feature is an almost completely bezel-free display, running the full width of the device, even curving around the edge, and shrinking the chin and forehead of the front screen to tiny slivers.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 will retail at 5,990,000 kip and the Galaxy S8+ at 6,690,000 kip.
