Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Thongsalith Mangnomek has been appointed President of the 9th Committee of the Lao National Olympic Committee (NOC).
The appointment was announced at a ceremony held in Vientiane on October 30, 2026, attended by former NOC presidents and vice presidents, as well as members of the newly appointed Executive Committee.
In his remarks, Thongsalith praised the outgoing 8th Executive Committee for its contributions to developing Lao sports and improving the country's standing at sub-regional, regional and international competitions.
He pledged to lead the new committee in promoting the Olympic movement in line with the Olympic Charter and the National Sports Strategic Plan through 2030. Priorities include improving athletes' competitiveness, strengthening the NOC's role in coordinating sports development and promoting Olympic values, and expanding international sports cooperation.
He also called for unity and collective efforts to address challenges facing national sports federations, particularly those related to institutional capacity, financing and infrastructure, while creating better conditions for athletes to develop their potential and represent the country in international competitions.
