Lao Vice President Vienthong Siphandone visited two major mining companies in Khammouane Province on June 25, encouraging continued investment in environmentally sustainable operations, local employment and industrial development.

Accompanied by provincial leaders and relevant officials, the Vice President toured Lao Kaiyuan Mining Co., Ltd. and Asia-Potash International (Laos) Sole Co., Ltd., where she received updates on production, investment plans and contributions to the province’s socio-economic development.
At Lao Kaiyuan Mining Co., Ltd., executives reported that the company operates a potash mining and processing complex with an annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes of potassium chloride fertilizer, 400,000 tonnes of granular potash fertilizer, and 10,000 tonnes of sodium bromide. The company exports its products to more than 20 countries and regions and is also advancing the development of the Lao Kaiyuan Circular Economy Industrial Park.
The delegation later visited Asia-Potash International (Laos) Sole Co., Ltd., where management briefed the Vice President on the company’s operations, future expansion plans and ongoing cooperation with the Lao government. The company is developing one of the country’s largest potash projects, aimed at supporting fertilizer production and strengthening Laos’ position as a regional supplier of mineral resources.
During the visits, Ms. Vienthong praised both companies for complying with national laws, promoting green industrial practices, creating employment opportunities for Lao workers and contributing to local community development. She encouraged them to continue improving environmental standards, expanding value-added production and increasing exports to generate greater economic benefits for the country.
The Vice President also called for enhanced employee welfare and closer collaboration with local authorities on infrastructure and community initiatives. She urged relevant government agencies to continue facilitating responsible investment and addressing operational issues to support the sustainable development of the mining sector.
She expressed confidence that the continued growth of both companies would make an important contribution to the socio-economic development of Khammouane Province and the Lao PDR.
