Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith has sent a message of condolence to President José Ramos-Horta of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste following the passing of former President Francisco Guterres Lú Olo on June 21.
In his message, President Thongloun expressed profound sadness over the death of the former Timorese leader, describing him as a distinguished statesman who made significant contributions to his country’s struggle for independence and to its subsequent nation-building and development.
He noted that Francisco Guterres Lú Olo played an important role in strengthening Timor-Leste’s standing in regional and international affairs while also helping deepen the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Timor-Leste. His efforts, President Thongloun said, contributed to the steady development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Lao President stated that the passing of the former head of state represents not only a great loss for the people of Timor-Leste, but also the loss of a close friend of the Lao people.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, as well as in his personal capacity, President Thongloun extended his deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to President José Ramos-Horta, the Government and people of Timor-Leste, and especially to the late leader’s family, relatives and friends during their time of mourning.
