Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith delivered a televised New Year address from the Presidential Palace on 9 April 2026, extending warm greetings to the Lao people at home and abroad, as well as the foreign community residing in the country.

Marking the transition from the Year of the Snake (B.E. 2568) to the Year of the Horse (B.E. 2569), the President highlighted the past year as a period of immense national pride. He noted the historic celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao PDR, alongside the successful conclusion of the 12th Party Congress and the elections for the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils.
Reflecting on the nation's resilience, President Thongloun remarked that despite global challenges, Laos maintained firm political stability and social order. He praised the national unity and the vital support received from international partners, which facilitated a steady economic recovery. Furthermore, he noted that the regional and international standing of the Lao PDR has been significantly elevated, ushering the nation into a new era of development.
Looking ahead to the Year of the Horse, the President cautioned that the global landscape remains complex due to ongoing regional conflicts. He called upon all citizens to remain united around the Party and Government to overcome emerging obstacles.
In his concluding remarks, the President urged the nation to actively implement the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan, with a particular focus on green and sustainable growth. He offered his best wishes for the health, prosperity, and happiness of the Lao people, wishing everyone a joyous and safe New Year celebration.
