ຂປລ The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security has announced comprehensive road safety measures and strict enforcement ahead of the Lao New Year 2026, aimed at reducing road accidents and ensuring public safety during the festive period.

Speaking at a press briefing, Head of the Traffic Police Department, Khamson Sidavong, said the measures are intended to ensure that nationwide celebrations remain peaceful, enjoyable, and free from loss of life, injury, and property damage caused by road accidents.
To strengthen enforcement, more than 90 traffic police officers will be deployed at key locations nationwide to manage traffic flow and monitor compliance with road safety regulations throughout the holiday period.
Authorities have urged all drivers to prepare thoroughly before travelling, emphasizing the importance of physical readiness to avoid fatigue and drowsiness while driving. Motorists are also required to carry all necessary documentation, including a valid driving licence, vehicle registration, technical inspection certificate, road tax receipt, insurance papers, and relevant business permits where applicable.
Road users are reminded that motorcycle riders and passengers must wear helmets at all times, while drivers and passengers of cars must wear seat belts to reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
Drivers are further advised to ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition before use, including lights, indicators, windscreen wipers, tyres, and braking systems.
Officials stressed that all drivers must strictly comply with traffic laws during the holiday period. Violations will result in penalties ranging from warnings and fines to confiscation of documents, and in serious cases, temporary seizure of vehicles.
The Traffic Police Department reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and smooth travel for all road users throughout the Lao New Year celebrations.
