(KPL) Laos’ Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued an extreme heat warning, forecasting temperatures of up to 41°C across the country from April 6 to April 10.

The alert, issued under Warning Notice No. 0354/DMH, advises residents to take precautions as a mass of hot air continues to cover all regions, combined with prevailing westerly winds.

Forecasters said the conditions will bring widespread hot to sweltering weather, with peak temperatures expected during the afternoon over several consecutive days. Isolated thunderstorms, lightning and hailstorms are also possible in some areas.

Regional Outlook

Temperatures are expected to vary by region:

Northeastern provinces, including Phongsaly, Houaphanh and Xieng Khouang, are forecast to see temperatures between 33°C and 37°C.

Northwestern provinces such as Luang Namtha, Oudomxay, Bokeo, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury could reach 35°C to 41°C.

Central areas, including Vientiane Province, Bolikhamxay, Khammouane and Savannakhet, are expected to record 36°C to 42°C.

Southern provinces  Saravane, Sekong, Champassak and Attapeu  may see temperatures between 36°C and 41°C.

In Vientiane, temperatures are forecast to range from 38°C to 41°C.

Safety Advisory

Authorities warned of increased risks associated with extreme heat, including fire hazards and heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke, particularly among children and older adults.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours and to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Officials also urged the public to follow updates from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology for the latest forecasts and safety guidance.
