Lao, Thai Agencies Sign MOU on Consumer Protection Cooperation

The signing ceremony was held on March 3, 2026, at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Vientiane.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Santisouk Phounsavath, Director General of the DTD, and Mr. Ronnarong Phoolpipat, Secretary-General of the OCPB under the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand.

Senior officials and technical experts from both sides attended the event.

Representing Laos were Mr. Bouavan Vilavong, Head of the Office; Ms. Sengdeuane Vongin, Director General of the Personnel Department; and Mr. Itthilith Yangnouvong, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation and Negotiation.

The Thai delegation included Dr. Wimonrat Vim Thariayaphilom, Head of International Cooperation; Ms. Onsunipha Arisornkanlathon, Policy and Plan Analyst; and Ms. Sirisuda Chakkraphaity, Legal Officer.

The MOU establishes a unified framework for cooperation in consumer protection, with both sides emphasizing the importance of closer coordination in addressing emerging challenges, particularly in the digital trade era.

Key areas of cooperation include quality control of goods and services, prevention of false advertising, and action against exaggerated or misleading claims.

Officials expressed confidence that the agreement will serve as an effective mechanism to enhance fair trade practices and ensure that the rights and legitimate interests of consumers in both countries are safeguarded.
