Luang Prabang Province has received an Outstanding International Friendship City Certificate at the 2026 China International Friendship Cities Conference, held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China, from October 20-22.

(KPL) A delegation from Luang Prabang, led by Mrs. Vienvilay Delaphan, Vice Chairwoman of the Luang Prabang Provincial Administration, attended the conference at the invitation of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The event was organised by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).
The conference brought together representatives from more than 61 countries and over 135 provinces and municipalities worldwide to promote international friendship and cooperation among cities and regions.
During the conference, the Luang Prabang delegation participated in a panel discussion on “Cultural Heritage Conservation and Promoting Mutual Learning Among Civilizations,” highlighting the importance of preserving cultural heritage and strengthening mutual understanding among peoples.
Luang Prabang was selected as one of 40 outstanding international friendship cities from more than 3,000 international sister-city partnerships established by China, in recognition of its cooperation and friendship with international partner cities.
The recognition highlights Luang Prabang’s role in promoting international exchanges, cultural cooperation and people-to-people relations, particularly through partnerships with Chinese cities and other international counterparts.
The award is expected to provide further encouragement for Luang Prabang to strengthen international cooperation, preserve its cultural heritage and expand exchanges in tourism, culture and socio-economic development.
