(KPL) The National Road Safety Committee, in coordination with relevant sectors, is intensifying infrastructure improvements to reduce traffic accidents and ease congestion on national highways.
Key measures include upgrading hazardous “black spots” through improved road geometry, installation of traffic lights and warning systems, expansion of lighting, construction of roundabouts, median barriers and parking areas, as well as enhanced road markings, guardrails, convex mirrors and CCTV monitoring.
Authorities also reported progress on major transport links, including sections of Route 13 North, Route 9 to the Vietnamese border, Route 16B in Sekong, Route 21 expansion works and the Mekong River Bridge, alongside improvements on several provincial routes.
To strengthen road safety standards, vehicle inspection systems are being modernized with automated technology. A total of 22 inspection centers are now operating nationwide, most managed by the private sector, while stricter enforcement measures are being introduced to ensure compliance with technical safety requirements.
Officials said the measures form part of a broader national effort to enhance transport safety and modernize the country’s road network.
