(KPL) Oudomxay Province has announced ambitious socio-economic targets for 2026, building on strong performance in 2025, with priority given to infrastructure development, clean energy, and administrative reform.
The plan was presented at a press briefing on January 30, 2026, chaired by Mr. Khamseng Aly, Vice Chairman of the Oudomxay Provincial Administration.
Despite mountainous terrain covering 85 percent of the province, Oudomxay recorded GDP growth of 5.3 percent in 2025, reinforcing its role as the economic heart of northern Laos.
Total provincial GDP reached 12,029.38 billion kip, while GDP per capita rose to USD 1,505. Investment mobilization exceeded expectations, reaching 5,848.05 billion kip, or 143 percent of the annual target. Revenue collection also surpassed plans at 144 percent.
Muang Xay was recognized as an ASEAN Clean Tourist City, highlighting progress in environmental management. The province also expanded high-tech agriculture, including a modern poultry farm producing 95,000 eggs per day.
For 2026, Oudomxay is targeting GDP growth of 5.4 percent, with total output expected to reach 12,430.85 billion kip and per capita income to increase to USD 1,570.
Key infrastructure priorities include completion of National Roads 2E and 2W, continued construction of the Oudomxay–Boten expressway, and expansion of the CGN Solar Power Project, following the successful operation of Phase I.
Administrative reform remains a central task. The province is establishing 28 “Ta Seng” sub-districts to strengthen local governance. The restructuring has been completed in Xay, La, and Pak Beng districts, while other districts continue implementation amid challenges related to facilities and staffing.
Oudomxay is also accelerating preparations for the upcoming elections of the Xth National Assembly and the Vth Provincial People’s Council, with authorities pledging full voter participation and strict security measures.
Provincial leaders called on all sectors and ethnic groups to unite in support of national development, emphasizing economic growth alongside cultural preservation and public service modernization.
