ຂປລ With less than one month remaining before the National Assembly and Provincial People’s Council elections, Luang Prabang Province has announced that preparations are nearly complete, with strong emphasis placed on candidate screening and security arrangements.

Speaking on January 28, 2026, Mr. Samnan Sonthany, Vice President of the Provincial People’s Council and a member of the Provincial Election Committee, said the province has followed a four-step preparation strategy. These include establishing election leadership bodies, completing district- and city-level election committees, training support personnel, and finalising all measures to ensure full readiness.

He said candidate selection has strictly adhered to national standards approved by the provincial Party congress, prioritising individuals with strong academic qualifications, innovative thinking, and the capacity to represent public interests effectively.

“Our objective is to elect representatives who will contribute to the protection and development of the province, while ensuring prosperity and social order,” Mr. Samnan said.

For the 10th National Assembly and 5th Provincial People’s Council elections in Constituency 6, a total of 14 candidates are contesting 10 National Assembly seats, while 84 candidates are competing for 60 Provincial People’s Council seats. The province will operate 776 polling stations.

Mr. Samnan also underscored Luang Prabang’s commitment to meeting the National Election Committee’s “400 percent guarantee,” which covers security and public order, voter participation, fire prevention, and transparency of the electoral process.

As a key national tourism destination, provincial authorities are giving priority to maintaining peace and stability to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly and without disruption.
