(KPL) On January 12, 2026,  The government today opened its Second Enlarged Meeting of 2025 at the National Convention Hall, marking a pivotal moment in setting the direction for national governance as the country prepares to implement the resolutions of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan.

Chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the meeting brought together Deputy Prime Ministers, government members, the Chairman of the Vientiane Administration Committee, provincial administration committee chairpersons and vice chairpersons nationwide, and representatives of Party and State agencies, mass organizations, and oversight bodies at the central level.

The two-day enlarged meeting focuses on reviewing government performance over the past term, identifying key priorities for 2025, and shaping the 2026 work plan alongside a forward-looking five-year outlook. Central to the discussions are measures to strengthen a self-reliant economy, implement national development plans more effectively, modernize state revenue collection, and address audit and inspection findings.

Major infrastructure development is also a key highlight of the agenda, including deliberations on the first phase of the Laos–Vietnam Railway project from Thakhek in Khammuan Province to the Mu Gia border crossing, priority road construction and upgrading plans for 2026, and expressway development projects with practical implementation mechanisms.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone stressed that this meeting is the final enlarged meeting of the 9th Government term and the first to be convened jointly with the Chairman of the Vientiane Administration Committee and provincial leaders nationwide. He noted that the meeting takes place against a backdrop of continued global and regional uncertainty, which may impact national development and people’s livelihoods.

The Prime Minister emphasized that 2026 is a crucial starting year for implementing the resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress and called on all participants to contribute focused, practical, and solution-oriented opinions. He underscored the need for the meeting’s outcomes to be translated into concrete actions that deliver tangible benefits for socio-economic development and improve the well-being of the people.
