(KPL) The Tax Department under the Ministry of Finance on March 2, 2026 launched its first training session of the year on the Tax Revenue Information System (TaxRIS), aimed at enhancing tax administration and service delivery nationwide.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Anouvong Bouaphanh, Deputy Director General of the Tax Department, with 40 district- and city-level tax officers from 20 targeted districts participating. The group included 15 districts from Savannakhet Province and five from Attapeu Province.
The training forms part of Phase 3 of the Public Financial Management Reform Program, supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the European Union (EU).
According to officials, the 2026 plan includes eight TaxRIS training sessions designed to strengthen technical capacity at subnational levels.
Mr. Anouvong said the system is undergoing continuous upgrades to keep pace with changes in tax legislation and administrative requirements. Recent improvements include the integration of property revenue collection into TaxRIS, enhanced declaration and payment mechanisms, improved data collection for analysis, and stronger connectivity with internal departments and external systems.
The five-day course focuses on updated system functions, including taxpayer data management, statistical reporting, issuance of Value Added Tax (VAT) notices, processing of Property Revenue notices (Form N) and other tax notices such as Form M, as well as procedures for amending declarations, waiving penalties, and generating audit memoranda for inspections and reconciliations.
The Tax Department expects participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve operational efficiency and share expertise with colleagues, contributing to the continued modernization of Laos’ tax administration system.
