(KPL) The Military Medical Department, under the General Logistics Department of the Lao People’s Army, has signed an agreement with Star Telecom (Unitel) to install a Modern Hospital Information System (HIS), marking a major step forward in digital transformation for military healthcare.

The signing ceremony was held on December 29, 2025, under the chairmanship of Major General Chandy Soulivongsak, Member of the Standing Committee of the Ministry of National Defense Party Committee and Head of the General Logistics Department. Also present were Mr. Tran Trung Hung, Director General of Star Telecom, along with senior officials from the General Logistics Department, the Military Medical Department, and representatives from both sides.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Chanthavisay Thammavong, Deputy Director General of Information Technology at Star Telecom, said the HIS project reflects the Ministry of National Defense’s strong political commitment and long-term vision for digital transformation. He noted that the system is especially important for military medicine, which is closely linked to soldiers’ health, combat readiness, and the overall efficiency of logistics and technical operations within the army.

The HIS project is expected to modernize medical services by improving the quality of healthcare and optimizing the use of resources. It will enhance efficiency through faster and more accurate command and control within the military medical network, while promoting standardized professional procedures, reducing administrative burdens, and minimizing errors in medical examinations and treatment.

In addition, the system will strengthen comprehensive hospital management, covering pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, finance, insurance, human resources, and technical infrastructure.

Following a successful pilot implementation at Military Hospital 103, the project will continue to refine integrated models and data standards, with the long-term goal of expanding the HIS system to all military hospitals nationwide.
