(KPL) On December 25, 2025, The Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security has announced heightened road safety measures ahead of year-end and International New Year 2026 celebrations.
Speaking at a press conference, Colonel Khamson Sidavong, Head of the Traffic Police Department, said officers will increase patrols and checkpoints at key locations, including expressway entry and exit points, Sikeut Junction, Road No. 10, Road 13 South in Tha Phabath District, and special economic zones. Coordination will also be strengthened with provincial authorities and the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.
Authorities urged drivers to follow strict safety requirements, including being well-rested, carrying valid documents, and ensuring vehicles are in good condition. Motorcycle riders and passengers must wear helmets, and overloading is prohibited. Car occupants must wear seatbelts, while long-distance buses are required to carry a reserve driver.
Speed limits will be enforced, with expressways capped at 120 kilometers per hour and a minimum of 80 kilometers per hour, while drivers on other roads must follow posted signs and adjust to road conditions.
Police will issue warnings for minor violations and impose fines or seize documents for serious or repeated offenses.
Officials also called on parents, village leaders, and organizations to help educate young people and staff on road safety, aiming to reduce accidents and ensure a safe and peaceful holiday season.
