(KPL)The Lao Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Songkane Luangmunithone, has urged media organisations in ASEAN and Korea to deepen cooperation to strengthen public understanding of the ASEAN–Korea Strategic Comprehensive Partnership.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to the Lao booth at the ASEAN Trade Fair 2025, Ambassador Songkane said that while many young people in ASEAN are familiar with Korean culture, young Koreans often lack knowledge about ASEAN countries. He called on media outlets on both sides to work together to promote clearer and more comprehensive information.

He added that stronger media engagement would help Laos learn from Korea’s experience in digital technology, AI and green agriculture, while Laos could in turn boost tourism promotion beyond well-known destinations such as Vientiane, Vangvieng and Luang Prabang.

On investment, the ambassador said that although Laos has a relatively small workforce, the growing number of Lao workers employed in Korea particularly in agriculture are gaining valuable skills that could contribute to national development. This, he said, is another reason to promote closer bilateral ties.

ASEAN-Korea Centre Secretary-General Kim Jae-shin praised the long-standing success of the ASEAN Trade Fair, calling it a “vital bridge” linking ASEAN SMEs with Korean consumers. This year’s fair, held in Ilsan from 13–16 November, showcased food and beverage products from more than 70 regional companies and aligned with a sector that contributes around 17 percent of ASEAN’s GDP.

The event was organised by the ASEAN-Korea Centre as part of ASEAN Week 2025 to help ASEAN businesses expand their reach in the Korean market through both B2B and B2C channels
