(KPL) Lao Asia Economic Development and Investment Bloc Company has extended a generous donation of 1.1 billion LAK in financial assistance and essential relief supplies to support the Lao government’s response to recent natural disasters, particularly the severe flooding caused by Tropical Storm Wipha in late July.

The donation includes both monetary contributions and critical items such as food, drinking water, and household necessities, aimed at supporting recovery and rebuilding efforts in communities hard hit by the floods.

The official handover ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Phoxay Sayasone, and Mr. Ma Shui Hao Mathew, President of Lao Asia Economic Development and Investment Bloc Company.

In his address, Prime Minister Sonexay expressed sincere appreciation for the company’s continued support of the Lao people.

He noted that the assistance was not only timely and substantial, but also closely aligned with the immediate needs on the ground. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the aid is distributed transparently and efficiently to reach those most in need.

Providing an update on the disaster situation, he reported extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods across several provinces. He outlined the government's ongoing response, which includes emergency relief, restoration of public services, and long-term recovery planning.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Laos’ commitment to creating a favourable investment environment, particularly in sectors contributing to sustainable development.

He emphasized national policies promoting clean and renewable energy, electric mobility, and green technologies.

In his remarks, Mr. Ma Shui Hao Mathew expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support Laos’ disaster response efforts. He shared an overview of the company’s regional operations in China and beyond, and reaffirmed its interest in expanding investment in Laos.

He stated the company is especially keen to engage in sectors aligned with the government’s development priorities, including infrastructure, clean energy, and sustainable growth initiatives.

The event underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing national challenges and showcased the role of responsible investment in supporting Laos’ long-term development goals.
