(KPL/VNA) ASEAN Police Football Open 2025 officially kicks off this week in Vietnam, offering a meaningful platform for regional law enforcement cooperation through sport.

The tournament is taking place at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi and PVF Stadium in nearby Hung Yen province from July 7 to 15. It marks the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security Forces (August 19, 1945–2025) and the 20th “All people protect the Fatherland's security” Festival (August 19, 2005–2025).

It is organised by the Ministry of Public Security in coordination with the Sports Authority of Vietnam and the Vietnam Football Federation, with T&T Group and SHB Bank being the main sponsors.

This year’s tournament features eight teams: five from other ASEAN nations (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, and Timor Leste), one from Australia, and two Vietnamese teams (Vietnam People's Public Security I and II).

They are split into two groups and will play in a round-robin format. Group A—Vietnam I, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia—will play at Hang Day Stadium. Group B—Vietnam II, Australia, Singapore, and Timor Leste—will compete at PVF Stadium.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on July 13, followed by the final on July 15 at Hang Day Stadium.

Vietnam I’s head coach, Tong Anh Tuan, said his team are ready to compete in a friendly spirit. Meanwhile, Thai coach Apichart Puttaboon expressed hopes of returning as champions at future editions.

Beyond competition, the tournament serves as a diplomatic and political initiative, strengthening solidarity and mutual understanding among ASEAN police and security forces.

Vietnam’s role as host highlights the country’s active contribution to regional cultural and sporting exchange while promoting its image internationally.

The tournament carries a total prize value of over 70,000 USD. The champion will receive 30,000 USD, a trophy, and gold medals. The runner-up earns 15,000 USD and silver medals, while both third-place teams will receive 10,000 USD each.
