(KPL) Under the visionary leadership of the Party, economic and social development initiatives have been prioritized to uplift livelihoods and reduce poverty. A key strategy involves promoting agriculture and livestock farming for commercial purposes, significantly improving the living standards of local communities.

A shining example of this success is Mr. Phanthaboun Vongxay, a model cattle farmer from Phonho Village, Phonhong District, Vientiane Province. His farm generates an impressive 200 million kip per year through cattle sales.

Speaking at the 8th Congress of the Phonhong District Party Committee, Mr. Phanthaboun shared his journey. He established his farm in 2018, starting with 40 crossbred Brahman cattle imported from Thailand, including 20 breeding cows, 19 calves, and one breeding bull. By 2020, he expanded his herd to 45 cattle.

His farm spans 35 hectares, strategically divided into three sections: 17 hectares for cattle housing and grazing, 10 hectares for growing fodder, and 8 hectares for cultivating supplementary feed and fruit-bearing trees. Over the years, he has focused on sustainable cattle feeding, growing high-quality grass varieties such as Lucerne, Napier, and Pangola. During dry seasons, he supplements their diet with silage, molasses, beer residue, and nutrient-rich feed.

Each year, the farm produces 15-20 new calves, bringing the total herd to 113. As a member of the Lao Brahman Cattle Association, Mr. Phanthaboun supplies high-quality cattle breeds to farmers and association members. His annual revenue includes approximately 150 million kip from cattle sales and 50 million kip from manure sales, totaling over 200 million kip.

Mr. Phanthaboun attributes his success to the Party’s strong leadership, which has fostered agricultural development and economic self-sufficiency. He expressed deep gratitude for government support in poverty alleviation efforts, emphasizing how these initiatives have helped farmers like him achieve a stable and prosperous livelihood.
