(KPL) Mr. Sengphet Chanthasen, Head of the Livestock and Fisheries Sector of Vientiane, told the media that ASF outbreaks were detected on September 4, 2026 in two villages in Sangthong District and at one location in Naxaithong District. He said the outbreaks have remained within the affected areas and have not spread further.

Authorities are implementing national and Vientiane directives while briefing livestock businesses and meat vendors on the revised movement requirements.

Under the guidelines, areas are classified into three zones: red zones with active outbreaks and strict movement controls; yellow zones serving as surveillance buffer areas; and green zones where livestock movement is permitted under specified conditions.

Pigs from green zones must undergo technical inspections before transport. Pigs weighing more than 100 kilogrammes and destined for slaughterhouses must test negative for ASF before being moved. Authorities have also designated transport routes to approved slaughterhouses, which are required to conduct pre- and post-slaughter inspections and maintain strict hygiene standards.

Pork vendors must carry complete documentation and transport permits showing the origin, route and destination of their products. Authorities will conduct market inspections, with violators subject to administrative fines and, in serious cases, civil or criminal penalties.

Mr. Sengphet said ASF is highly fatal to pigs and can cause significant economic losses for farmers, but does not infect humans.

He said the revised movement rules aim to balance disease control with ensuring an adequate and stable pork supply for consumers.

The Livestock and Fisheries Sector will continue transport inspections, prevent illegal pork from entering outbreak zones and take action against unauthorised roadside meat sales and unapproved slaughtering facilities.
