Laos, Vietnam Seek Stronger Agricultural Investment to Boost Production and Food Security

(KPL) The Lao PDR and Vietnam are strengthening cooperation in agriculture, with a focus on attracting more Vietnamese investment, resolving challenges facing businesses and promoting modern and sustainable agricultural production that can benefit farmers, consumers and the wider economy.

On September 3, 2026, Dr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Agriculture and Environment, received Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Lao PDR, and his delegation at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

The meeting was held to implement the directions of the senior leaders of the two Parties and countries to further strengthen strategic cooperation, particularly in agriculture, building on the achievements of bilateral cooperation in recent years.

The two sides exchanged information on attracting investment from Vietnamese enterprises into Laos’ agricultural sector and discussed measures to address difficulties and outstanding issues faced by existing enterprises. They also discussed preparations for an investment promotion conference focusing on agriculture in the Lao PDR.

Dr. Linkham welcomed the Ambassador’s visit and stressed the importance of translating the directions of the two countries’ senior leaders into practical results. He highlighted the potential for cooperation in modern agricultural investment projects that can strengthen production capacity, create employment and income opportunities, and contribute to sustainable agricultural development.

Greater investment and technology cooperation could also help Lao farmers improve productivity, access modern production methods and markets, while strengthening domestic food supplies and developing agriculture for commercial production.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam expressed appreciation to the Lao Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for their continued support of Vietnamese enterprises operating in Laos. He expressed confidence that closer cooperation would further strengthen bilateral relations while promoting sustainable agricultural production and food security.

The two sides also agreed on the importance of sharing experience, supporting one another and improving long-term production capacity, contributing to stronger agricultural development and mutual benefits for the people of Laos and Vietnam.
