(KPL) Mr. Khamphan Pheuyavong, Head of the Commission for Information and Education of the Party Central Committee, visited Nan District, Luang Prabang Province, on August 23, 2026, to assess flood damage and support affected residents.
The flooding occurred around 2 a.m. on August 19 following hours of heavy rain, causing the Nan River to rise rapidly and inundate homes. Preliminary figures show that 122 families, or 574 people, were affected. More than 14 hectares of rice fields and over one hectare of cassava plantations were also damaged.
Mr. Khamphan urged provincial and district authorities to mobilize resources to assist affected communities, closely monitor high-risk areas and accelerate recovery efforts.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant, protect children, follow weather updates, maintain hygiene and ensure safe drinking water to prevent post-flood diseases.
On the occasion, Mr. Khamphan handed over consumer goods worth 293 million kip to the Nan District Administration for distribution to affected families and inspected damaged areas in Sibounheuang and Nalao villages
