Lao Police Hand Over 41 Thai Nationals Suspected of Illegal Online Gambling to Thai Authorities

ຂປລ The Special Task Force of the Ministry of Public Security has handed over 41 Thai nationals, including 30 women, suspected of operating illegal online gambling websites and engaging in computer-related crimes and telecommunications fraud to Thai authorities for further legal proceedings.



The handover ceremony took place on August 10, 2026, at the First Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge International Checkpoint in Vientiane Capital–Nong Khai.

Representing the Lao side, Police Lieutenant Colonel Khaenkham Khaenthavong, Head of the Immigration Inspection Unit at the First Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge International Checkpoint, signed the handover memorandum. The Thai side was represented by Police Lieutenant Colonel Thiyanaphat Rangsiphamanakun, Deputy Superintendent of the Immigration Office in Nong Khai Province. Officials from both sides attended the ceremony.



The suspects were detained by the Special Task Force of the Ministry of Public Security, in coordination with mobile security forces, during a raid on the premises of ST VEGUS Company Limited in Dongphosi Village, Hadxaifong District, Vientiane Capital, on July 18, 2026.

According to the Lao authorities, the suspects were involved in activities allegedly violating Articles 141, 173 and 233 of the Lao PDR Penal Code, covering prohibited online gambling, computer-related criminal activities, and telecommunications fraud.

The handover was carried out in accordance with the Lao PDR Law on Immigration and the Management of Foreigners and the Treaty between the Lao PDR and the Kingdom of Thailand on the Transfer of Convicted Persons and Cooperation in the Execution of Criminal Judgments, signed on March 20, 2004.

The Ministry of Public Security has urged members of the public who observe individuals, groups, or locations suspected of illegal activities to promptly report them to the authorities through the Economic Police Department's Facebook page or the 24-hour hotline 1533.
