Seven Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs) have arrived in Laos to begin their assignments, with a welcome ceremony held at the Embassy of Japan in Vientiane on June 9.

The event brought together representatives from the Embassy of Japan, the Ministry of Finance, JICA Laos Office, as well as relevant ministries and organisations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR Koizumi Tsutomu welcomed the arrival of the new volunteers and noted that the total number of JOCVs currently serving in Laos has reached 46.
He highlighted the long-standing cooperation between Japan and Laos through the JOCV programme, with Japan having dispatched volunteers to Laos since 1965.
The newly arrived volunteers also met their supervisors and colleagues from partner organisations, helping strengthen mutual understanding and future cooperation.
Two volunteers will be assigned to organisations in Vientiane Capital, while five others will begin their work in Luang Prabang, Xiengkhouang, and Savannakhet provinces.
