(KPL) Laos has appointed a new Secretary of the Party Committee and Head of the Presidential Office, following an official handover ceremony held in Vientiane on 20 March 2026.
Phongsamouth Anlavan takes over the role from Khemmany Pholsena, who has retired after years of public service. The transition was formalised at a ceremony attended by senior government and party officials.
The event was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, who also serves as a member of the Party Central Committee’s Political Bureau. Representatives from key party bodies and the Presidential Office were present.
According to official decrees, Ms Khemmany' s retirement was approved under Political Bureau and presidential directives issued in January. In the same set of decisions, Mrs Phongsamouth was appointed to succeed her in leading the Presidential Office.
In remarks at the ceremony, Mr Saleumxay praised Mrs Khemmany’s leadership and long-standing contribution to the state, noting her role in guiding the office through various challenges.
He said the appointment of Mrs Phongsamouth forms part of a broader organisational restructuring approved by the Political Bureau, aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of state institutions.
Mr Saleumxay also called on the new appointee to uphold strong leadership, maintain internal unity, and carry out his responsibilities in line with party principles.
