The Embassy of France celebrated the Month of Francophonie in partnership with several Francophone countries present in Laos: Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Vietnam
in the presence of representatives of the Lao authorities, the diplomatic corps international organizations, academia, and many friends of Francophonie the reception celebrated the French language and its values of dialogue, solidarity, cooperation and cultural diversity.
The evening began with a presentation by a delegation of students from Lycée Hoffet, composed of five young people of different nationalities-Korean, Lao, Spanish, Belgian, and Dutch. Accompanied by their classical literature teacher, Ms. Coralie Sérieys, the students shared the values of Francophonie. They illustrated the cultural diversity that characterizes the Francophone community and the essential role of youth in passing on the French language.
H.E. Ms. Bénédicte Descamps, Ambassador of France to Laos, emphasized the importance of Francophonie as a space for dialogue, education, and cultural exchange, as well as the commitment of France and its partners to promoting the French language and the values it embodies.
Guests discovered culinary specialties from various Francophone countries. The menu for this Francophone gastronomic journey included French petits-fours—mini foie gras madeleines, mini croque-monsieur, pâté terrines on toast, mini chocolate fondants, and fruit desserts-Canadian tourtière, pecan pie, and chocolates, Luxembourg sausages and white wine, Swiss raclette, Belgian fries, and Vietnamese nem rán.Cambodia also contributed to this culinary showcase.
In total, thirteen stands were set up in the gardens of the Residence of France, decorated in the colors of the member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie.
Several activities were organized to explore Francophonie, including an interactive quiz on its history, member countries, and notable figures from the Francophone world. Numerous prizes were awarded to participants, thanks in particular to the support of TV5Monde, the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie, and the Embassy of France.
In addition, various installations highlighted Francophonie: a "Francophone Proverbs Tree," inviting everyone to share a favorite quote or expression; flags of the member countries of the International Organisation of La Francophonie; as well as greetings in different Francophone variations and proverbs displayed along the main pathway. A Francophone music playlist accompanied the evening, allowing guests to travel across continents through music.
