Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone attended the handover and inauguration ceremony of the road connecting Xaychamphon District to the Nam Onn Border Checkpoint on the Lao–Vietnam border on March 12 in Bolikhamxay Province.

The ceremony was also attended by senior officials from central and provincial authorities, including leaders of Bolikhamxay Province, representatives from Ha Tinh Province and Nghe An Province of Vietnam, as well as the Ambassador of Vietnam to Laos and representatives of the companies that funded the project.
The newly completed asphalt concrete road stretches 35 kilometres. A two-kilometre section within the district centre features four traffic lanes, each 3.5 metres wide, with a central median and drainage systems, while the remaining 33-kilometre section outside the district centre consists of two lanes with shoulders on both sides.
The project also includes two reinforced concrete bridges with a combined length of 154.8 metres and supporting drainage infrastructure.
The total investment for the project is approximately 260 billion kip, financed through a grant from Vietnam–Laos Energy Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, the investor of the Truong Son wind power project cluster in Bolikhamxay Province. Construction was completed within six months in late 2025, and the company will continue to maintain the road for five years after handover.
The new road is expected to significantly improve transportation in Xaychamphon District, which previously faced travel disruptions during the rainy season. The improved infrastructure will facilitate year-round access, reduce travel time, and create better conditions for local people to improve their livelihoods.
The project is also expected to promote trade, investment, tourism and cross-border economic cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, contributing to the socio-economic development of Xaychamphon District and surrounding areas.
