On March 10, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos in Vientiane, Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, received a courtesy call from Ms. Ambra Dickie, Ambassador of Canada to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

(KPL) On March 10, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos in Vientiane, Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, received a courtesy call from Ms. Ambra Dickie, Ambassador of Canada to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
During the meeting, both sides highly valued the growing cooperation between ASEAN and Canada, particularly the progress made under the ASEAN–Canada Strategic Partnership and the implementation of the ASEAN–Canada Plan of Action (2021–2025).
The discussions also focused on future cooperation, including the preparation of the ASEAN–Canada Plan of Action (2026–2030) and efforts to advance negotiations on the ASEAN–Canada Free Trade Agreement (ACAFTA). Both sides also noted preparations for the 50th anniversary of ASEAN–Canada relations in 2027.
In addition, the two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as trade and investment, clean energy and mining, education and capacity building, as well as sustainable development and eco-tourism.
On the occasion, Ambassador Ambra Dickie expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and commended the constructive role of the Lao PDR as Country Coordinator for ASEAN–Canada Dialogue Relations (2024–2027). She reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to working closely with Laos to further strengthen and expand cooperation between ASEAN and Canada.
