(KPL) Authorities in Champhone District, Savannakhet Province, officially celebrated the recognition of Ho Tay Pidok Library (Ancient Buddhist Scripts Library) of Nong Lamchan Village and Wat Kao Talaew Temple as National Heritage sites during a ceremony held from March 2–4, 2026.

The event was organized alongside Champhone District’s traditional Palm Leaf Manuscript Procession, a distinctive cultural festival. The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Davone Xaisulian, Chairperson of the Savannakhet Provincial Administration, with participation from provincial and district officials, Buddhist clergy and local residents.

The Ho Tay Pidok Library (Ancient Buddhist Scripts Library) is an ancient wooden structure located in the middle of a lake in Nong Lamchan Village. The site safeguards sacred Buddhist scriptures and preserves 219 palm leaf manuscript stories, representing the district’s rich religious and literary heritage.

Meanwhile, Wat Kao Talaew Temple is renowned for its centuries-old architectural design and intricate mural paintings, reflecting significant artistic and spiritual value.

Officials stated that the national heritage recognition is aimed at conserving these historic landmarks while promoting cultural identity and sustainable tourism development.

The celebration featured a grand palm leaf manuscript procession led by monks, senior officials and villagers dressed in traditional ethnic attire. Cultural performances, including folk dances and khene music, were showcased, along with reenactments of the traditional “Phu Tai Spinning Cotton” lifestyle, highlighting Champhone District’s unique cultural heritage.

Authorities noted that the designation enhances the district’s status as a cultural tourism destination, inviting visitors to explore the historic “Library on Water,” admire the ancient Wat Kao Talaew Temple, and experience the vibrant Palm Leaf Procession festival.
