(KPL) The Political Platform of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party has been described as the Party’s revolutionary theory and a guiding torch for the multi-ethnic people of Lao PDR in advancing national development and socialism.
The remarks were delivered by Vilay Lakhamphong, Politburo member and Standing Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, during a meeting on Feb 25, 2026, to disseminate and implement documents of the Party’s 12th National Congress.
He noted that since its establishment, the Party has issued two previous Political Platforms — in 1955, which guided the national struggle for independence, and in 1972, which directed the completion of the national democratic revolution and the transition toward socialism. The newly developed Political Platform for the new era responds to emerging challenges and aims to deepen the country’s renovation process while strengthening an independent and self-reliant economy.
The third Political Platform, titled “Consolidating the People’s Democratic Regime and Advancing Towards Socialism,” continues the renovation policy initiated by Kaysone Phomvihane. It sets a long-term vision for Laos to become an upper-middle-income developing country approaching high-income status by 2055, coinciding with the Party’s 100th anniversary.
The platform outlines 11 major policy directions, including building a socialist-oriented market economy, advancing industrialization and digital transformation, protecting the environment, promoting cultural development, strengthening national defense and security, enhancing rule-of-law governance, fostering national unity, and expanding people’s participation in state management.
