(KPL) On December 27, 2025, The 34th Annual Meeting between the Lao and Vietnamese border delegations was held in Vientiane to review border management cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.

The Lao delegation was led by Mr. Maithong Thammavongsa, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Lao–Vietnam Border Delegation. The Vietnamese side was headed by Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Vietnam–Laos Border Delegation. Representatives from relevant central agencies and governors of border provinces from both countries also attended.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the 2016 Agreement on Border Management Regulations and assessed outcomes from the 33rd meeting held in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.

Both sides praised border officials for maintaining security, stability, and order along the shared border over the past two years, noting that cooperation has further strengthened the long-standing relationship described as a “Great Friendship, Special Solidarity, and Comprehensive Cooperation.”

The delegations agreed to continue regular joint patrols, improve management of border markers and checkpoints, repair damaged boundary markers, and raise public awareness of border laws among local communities and village leaders.

They also emphasized promoting economic development in border areas through improved infrastructure, expanded border trade, and easier movement of people and goods to improve local livelihoods.

During the visit, the Vietnamese delegation paid a courtesy call on Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, reaffirming the two countries’ close and enduring partnership. The delegation also visited the Lao–Vietnam Friendship Park and cultural tourism sites in Vientiane.
