(KPL) The Vientiane Election Committee convened its inaugural meeting on Dec. 23, 2025, launching preparations for upcoming national and local elections.
The meeting was held at the Vientiane Administration Office and chaired by Mrs. Lamphoy Si-akkhachanh, Vice President of the Vientiane People’s Council and Vice Chair of the Election Committee. Attendees included members of the National Assembly representing Constituency 1 (Vientiane), representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and officials from relevant sub-committees.
The session focused on setting the framework for elections to the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Vientiane People’s Council.
Officials formally presented Resolution No. 136, issued on Dec. 5, 2025, confirming the establishment and appointment of the Vientiane Election Committee. Participants also reviewed a draft resolution outlining internal roles and responsibilities, along with a comprehensive operational plan for the election process.
Committee members assessed progress on preparatory work already completed and identified urgent priorities to ensure the elections proceed smoothly and on schedule.
Addressing the meeting, Chairwoman Lamphoy emphasized the need to align election activities with resolutions of the Party Central Committee Politburo. She called on committee members to clearly define responsibilities, strengthen coordination with district-level election committees, and ensure readiness across all levels.
She also stressed the importance of overseeing voting by Lao citizens abroad, including at Lao embassies, consulates, and permanent missions.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to transparency, coordination, and effective implementation to ensure successful elections in line with national objectives.
