The Lao PDR marked a historic milestone today with a ceremony celebrating the official inscription of Hin Nam No National Park as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, the first of its kind for the country. The ceremony began at Wattay International Airport and continued to Patuxay Park, drawing widespread participation from senior officials, international partners, and the public.

Leading the procession were Mr. Vansay Phongsavanh, Governor of Khammouane Province, and Mr. Chanthone Boulapha, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. They were joined by representatives from relevant ministries, provincial authorities, international organizations, Vientiane residents, and local artists, who took part in the festive march.

In his remarks, Governor Vansay highlighted the significance of the achievement, noting that Hin Nam No National Park was officially inscribed during the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris, France. The park, located in Boualapha District, Khammouane Province, is now recognized as a transboundary World Heritage Site, jointly listed with Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park in Viet Nam’s Quang Binh Province.

The UNESCO inscription affirms the outstanding universal value of the Hin Nam No landscape, which features: One of Southeast Asia’s most ancient and exceptional karst limestone formations.
