(KPL) Khong District in Champasak Province successfully launched its National Animal Vaccination Day campaign last week, aligning with the official calendar date of November 11. The launch event, held at Sala Hong Tham temple in Veun Khao village, was combined with the celebration of National Irrigation Day, marked annually on November 3.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Salermxay Sengsouliyavong, Vice Chairman of the Khong District Governing Committee, and Ms. Souphan Khounboulom, Deputy Head of the District Agriculture and Environment Office, along with local leaders, villagers, and students.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Souphan highlighted the extensive preparations undertaken by district authorities to ensure the success of this year’s vaccination drive. Technical teams have been deployed across nine clusters and three major surrounding zones, covering a total of 114 villages, to administer vaccines and promote awareness.

The campaign targets a large livestock population, including over 34,000 head of cattle, more than 21,000 pigs, over 8,200 goats, and about 227,000 poultry. Vaccines are being administered to prevent major livestock diseases such as haemorrhagic septicaemia and blackleg in cattle, classical swine fever in pigs, and Newcastle disease and fowl cholera in poultry.

Addressing the crowd, Mr. Salermxay called on villagers to actively participate in the campaign.

“This campaign is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving food security and ensuring better livelihoods. Families must do their part to protect their animals and cooperate fully with vaccination teams so that livestock remains healthy and productive.”

The initiative follows the One Health approach an integrated effort to connect animal, human, and environmental health. The campaign underscores the government’s broader strategy to enhance disease prevention, protect community well-being, and support local economic development.
