(KPL/Prensa Latina) The President of Angola and current head of the African Union (AU), Joao Lourenco, called for greater cooperation between the continent and the European Union (EU) in infrastructure, industrialization, health, and education.
Speaking in Brussels, Belgium, at the second edition of the Global Gateway Forum, he emphasized that 25 years into the strategic partnership between the two blocs, it is necessary to act together to improve cooperation models and consolidate solidarity mechanisms.
“The partnership between the AU and the EU within the framework of the Global Gateway has immense potential and represents, in our opinion, a fundamental instrument for transforming opportunities into concrete results,” the president, who referred to the need to advance African industrialization, said.
He added that the region’s countries are committed to achieving this goal by developing capacities that drive the local transformation of resources, which will create jobs for youth, incorporate technological content into products, and mitigate migration flows to Europe.
“We are fully aware of the importance of valuing African raw materials, making them more competitive in international markets,” he commented, referring to actions within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area and the construction of infrastructure for development.
In this regard, he invited all Forum participants to the Summit on Financing for Infrastructure Development in Africa, to be held in Luanda at the end of October, and said it will be mutually beneficial if they join Africans in making the implementation of these projects a reality.
