(KPL) The Propaganda and Training Board of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Lao PDR, held in Vientiane on Aug 27 a commemorative lecture marking the 80th anniversary of the National Day of Vietnam.

The event was attended by Deputy Head of the board Vilavone Phanthavong, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam, as well as senior officials from Party organizations, the Lao Front for National Development, the Lao Veterans’ Federation, relevant ministries, and mass organizations.

On September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly declaring the independence, freedom, and equality of the Vietnamese people before the whole world.

In her speech, Mrs. Phanthavong reflected on the shared revolutionary history of Laos and Vietnam, noting that the ties between the two nations trace back to the establishment of the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930 by President Ho Chi Minh.

She emphasized the deep-rooted bonds forged through decades of joint struggle, and unity in pursuit of independence, peace, and development.

Citing President Ho Chi Minh’s famous teaching — “Helping friends is like helping ourselves” — she praised the special solidarity between the peoples of Laos and Vietnam as a decisive factor in their national liberation movements and as a foundation for long-term cooperation.

The deputy head also commended the CPV’s leadership over the past eight decades, highlighting Vietnam’s achievements in national renewal (Doi Moi), political stability, rapid economic development, improved living standards, and its growing international influence.

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam also delivered a keynote address on the occasion, underscoring the significance of the August Revolution in 1945 as a turning point in Vietnamese history. He praised the longstanding special solidarity and cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, which he said has withstood the test of time — from fighting together against colonial and imperialist forces to cooperating closely in nation-building.

The ambassador highlighted that the Vietnam-Laos relationship is unique, having developed from a shared revolutionary foundation.

The two Parties trace their origins back to the Indochinese Communist Party. Throughout history, the two countries have stood shoulder-to-shoulder, enduring hardships and jointly overcoming adversities for the freedom and happiness of their peoples.
