(KPL) Laos and Switzerland signed a bilateral agreement on scheduled air services on 26 July 2024.
The agreement modernizes the agreement concluded between the two countries in December, 1999, which it will replace as it enters into force.
The agreement reflects the Federal Council's efforts to improve Switzerland's connection by giving airlines greater flexibility in their operations.
The bilateral agreement on scheduled air services signed between the two countries will give the airlines concerned the necessary operational flexibility on routes between the two countries.
In particular, it allows the two countries to designate as many airlines as they wish to connect them. It also authorizes code-share flights. The parties have confirmed that the designated companies will be granted the right to operate direct flights without frequency limitations.
This development will benefit their respective economies in the future.
On 26 July 2024, in Vientiane, FDFA State Secretary Alexandre Fasel signed the agreement, which had already been approved by the Federal Council at its meeting on 22 November 2023. The texts will enter into force as soon as the parties have notified each other by exchange of diplomatic notes that their legal formalities relating to the conclusion and entry into force of international agreements have been completed.
