India provides training to Lao official on sustainable fisheries and dairy

ຂປລ (KPL) As part of capacity building supports under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation framework, six Lao officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to attend the training on sustainable fisheries and dairy in India.

(KPL) As part of capacity building supports under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation framework, six  Lao officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to attend the training course on sustainable fisheries and dairy in India.

They are visiting India to attend a 14-days (6-19 December 2023) Training programme on “Sustainable Fisheries and Dairy” at Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Kolkata, West Bengal in India. The training programme is fully funded by the Government of India.

So far this year, 14 Lao officials have attended various training programmes in India, under Mekong Ganga Cooperation framework, including a 12-day training programme from 25 September to 7 October 2023 on “Preparation of feasibility studies and detailed project reports for highway projects” at Indian Academy of Highway Engineers, Noida, India.

Beside that, a 12-day training programs on “Preservation of historical and cultural monuments & exchange of delegations” from 6 -17 March 2023 at National Museum Institute, New Delhi as well as a 3-day training for manager level (training of trainers) from 24-26 April 2023 on “Eradication of communicable and non-communicable diseases with high incidences” at National Institute of Malaria Research, New Delhi.

Presently, four Lao officials are attending a 21-day training programme on “Exchange experiences and best practices in community farming and water resource management” from 20 November to 10 December 2023 at North Eastern Institute of Water and Land Management, Assam, India.

Further, a training programme on “Preservation of rice germplasm and productivity enhancement through mechanization” will be organised from 27 January to 10 February 2024, at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in which six Lao PDR officials will participate. A programme on “Exchange of experts from vocational training institutions and skill development authorities” will be organised from 22 January to 2 February 2024 at National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) Bengaluru, Karnataka in which four Lao officials will participate.

The Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) is an initiative by six countries – India and five ASEAN countries, namely, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, and is one of the oldest mechanisms of lower Mekong region, guided by India’s Act East Policy.
