Lao Telecom, National University Sign Agreement to Expand ICT and AI Infrastructure

ຂປລ Lao Telecommunications Public Company (Lao Telecom) and the National University of Laos (NUOL) have signed a 15-year cooperation agreement to expand telecommunications infrastructure and support the use of information technology and artificial intelligence in education and research.

(KPL) The agreement was signed in Vientiane on October 8, 2026, by Lao Telecom Managing Director Suphone Chanthavixay and NUOL Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phouphet Kyophilavong.

Under the agreement, Lao Telecom will provide high-speed internet services and develop fibre-optic networks connecting NUOL’s Dong Dok campus with other campuses, as well as internal networks across university facilities.

NUOL will provide land and facilitate the construction of telecommunications infrastructure. The project will be implemented in five phases, with completion scheduled for 2030.

The cooperation aims to improve mobile and fixed broadband coverage, giving lecturers, students and university staff faster and more reliable access to digital services. It will also strengthen network security and support the integration of ICT and AI into teaching, learning and academic research.

The agreement forms part of efforts to modernise higher education infrastructure and expand the use of digital technologies in Laos
