Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane has highlighted the significance of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s upcoming official visit to Laos, saying it reflects the importance Vietnam attaches to its relations with Laos.

Speaking to the media at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 5, Mr Thongsavanh said the visit would be Hung’s first official foreign visit since taking office, with Laos chosen as his first destination.
“This choice clearly demonstrates the special bond and importance that the Vietnamese side attaches to the relations between the two countries,” he said.
The visit is expected to reaffirm the two countries’ commitment to strengthening their great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership.
Mr Thongsavanh said the visit comes at an important time as Laos and Vietnam begin implementing the resolutions of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The visit will provide an opportunity for the two sides to reinforce their shared priorities and further advance bilateral relations. More than 10 cooperation documents are expected to be signed or exchanged following official talks, covering cooperation between central agencies as well as local authorities.
The agreements are expected to provide a basis for translating bilateral commitments into concrete programmes and activities and to support preparations for the 49th Meeting of the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee in early 2027.
An important economic component of the visit will be the Laos–Vietnam Investment Promotion Conference, which is expected to bring together about 1,000 government and business representatives. The conference will seek to connect businesses and government agencies from both countries and turn investment opportunities into practical cooperation.
Mr Thongsavanh said the visit would also contribute to preparations for the 2027 Year of Laos–Vietnam and Vietnam–Laos Friendship and Solidarity, which will mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.
Diplomatic relations were established on September 5, 1962, while the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation was signed on July 18, 1977.
Mr Thongsavanh expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen the longstanding ties between Laos and Vietnam and bring more tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.
